V Rising Complete Guide to the Weapon Upgrades Path
In V Rising there are 8 stages you go through when upgrading your weapon:
- Bone Weapon
- Reinforced Bone Weapon
- Copper Weapon
- Merciless Copper Weapon
- Iron Weapon
- Merciless Iron Weapon
- Dark Silver Weapon
- Sanguine Weapon
If you want to skip the entire guide and just see how to craft your next upgrade you can just press the stage you are interested in above to jump there.
A quick note: I will use Sword as the weapon to upgrade throughout this guide - other weapons (other than Crossbow) are pretty much identical, you might just need a different gem to upgrade them.
Reaper, Slasher don't have Bone or Copper weapons - they start at the Iron stage
Tier System
To understand how to upgrade weapons, we should first get acquainted with the tier system in V Rising. You can skip this part and scroll down to "How to Upgrade Your Weapon" if this part is not interesting to you.
Weapon Tiers
The weapons in V Rising can be divided into four tiers:
- Tier 0 - Bone Weapon
- Tier 1 - Copper Weapon
- Tier 2 - Iron Weapon
- Tier 3 - Dark Silver Weapon
Each tier has a base weapon that can be upgraded once (for example Bone Sword upgrades to Reinforced Bone Sword).
Location Tiers
Our map is divided into three tiers of locations:
- Tier 1 - Farbane Woods
- Tier 2 - Dunley Farmlands
- Tier 3 - Silverlight Hills
Why is this important? It's because to upgrade our weapons we need to unlock prerequisites and gather material, and these prerequisites and materials can be found in their respective tier of location. Everything you need for the copper tier is in Farbane Woods, everything you need for the iron tier is in Dunley Farmlands, and everything you need for dark silver is in Silverlight Hills.
Research Tiers
Research is divided into three tiers just like the locations, and unlocking each tier of research is tied to it's respective location.
- Tier 1 - Research Desk
- Tier 2 - Study
- Tier 3 - Athenaeum
Same story as for locations, Tier 1 is for Copper, Tier 2 for Iron and Tier 3 for Dark Silver.
Production Facility Tiers
- Tier 0 - Inventory/Simple Workbench
- Tier 1 - Simple Workbench
- Tier 2 - Smithy
- Tier 3 - Anvil
Material Tiers
Each tier of weapon requires their own tier of materials to be crafted.
- Tier 0 - Lumber, Stone, Bones
- Tier 1 - Copper, Plank, Leather, Crude Gem
- Tier 2 - Iron, Reinforced Plank, Regular Gem
- Tier 3 - Dark Silver, Pristine Leather, Flawless Gem
In one way or another, you kind of need the last stage of the previous tier to be able to farm your next tier, you need reinforced bone weapons to farm copper ore, merciless copper weapons to farm iron ore, merciless iron weapons to farm silver ore. This is not entirely true since you can get materials as drops, but to get enough of the materials you pretty much require the last stage of the previous tier.
How to Upgrade Your Weapon
Bone Weapon
This tier has 4 types of weapons: Sword, Axes, Mace and Spear. How to Unlock:
- Bone Sword: Quest: Collecting the Remains
- Bone Axes: Quest: Armour of Bones
- Bone Mace: Quest: Into the Woods
- Bone Spear: Quest: Fortify
Materials needed to craft this stage:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Bone | Found by killing pretty much any enemy |
After gathering the required materials and unlocking your weapon, simply open up your inventory and go to the crafting tab to craft your weapon.
Reinforced Bone Weapon
Your first upgrade! This one requires you to finish the quest: Fortify
Materials needed to craft this stage:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Stone | Hit rocks to get Stone |
Plank | Hit trees to get lumber, build a Sawmill to process your lumber into Plank |
After gathering the required materials and unlocking your weapon, build a Simple Workbench to upgrade your weapon.
Copper Weapon
The materials needed for this tier are:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Copper Ingot | Smelt Copper Ore at a Furnace |
Plank | Hit trees to get lumber, build a Sawmill to process your lumber into Plank |
Suggestion: Kill Errol the Stonebreaker(external link to map) at Bandit Copper Mine, this will give you a lot of Copper Ore to smelt into Copper Ingots.
Crafted at a Simple Workbench
Merciless Copper Weapon
The first stage that isn't as straightforward as the others.
This stage requires researching in Research Desk to unlock the recipe. Researching can be a big pain because you need a lot of paper to research and what you unlock by researching is random. One method to obtain the recipe is to go to Bandit Sulphur Mine and kill Clive the Firestarter(external link to map), since he has quite a large chance to drop a copper weapon recipe on death. Other Bosses in Farbane Woods also have a chance to drop it.
The materials for this stage are also not as simple as previous stages:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Crude Sapphire | Can be bought from a Tier 1 merchant or as a general drop in Farbane Woods |
Whetstone | Drops in Bandit Camps or Kill Grayson the Armourer(external link to map) to unlock the Whetstone recipe. |
Leather | Kill Keely the Frost Archer(external link to map) to unlock Tannery and process Animal Hide into Leather |
Iron Weapon
Here starts our journey to Tier 2 weapons - as mentioned before, most of the thing related to crafting this weapon are related to our tier 2 location: Dunley Farmlands.
First of all, we need to build a Smithy, this building can be unlocked by killing Quincey the Bandit King(external link to map)
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Iron Ingot | You can find Iron Ore at Haunted Iron Mine in Dunley Farmlands and smelt them into Iron Ingot at a Furnace. Requires recipe from killing Quincey the Bandit King(external link to map) |
Plank | Hit trees to get lumber and process it into Plank at a Sawmill |
Merciless Iron Weapon
Similarly to the Merciless Copper Weapon need to research this stage, but at the tier 2 research facility: Study, which is unlocked by killing Nicholaus the Fallen(external link to map)
After building the Study you can unlock the research either by feeding it scroll or by killing strong enemies in Dunley Farmlands.
The requiers materials for this stage:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Regular Sapphire | Can be bought from the Tier 2 Merchant or as a general drop in Dunley Farms |
Greater Blood Essence | Crafted with 200 Blood Essence at a Blood Press after killing Tristan the Vampire Hunter(external link to map) |
Reinforced Plank | Unlocked after killing Vincent the Frostbringer(external link to map), can then be crafted at a Sawmill |
Craft it at a Smithy
Dark Silver Weapon
Our journey into Tier 3:
We require a Anvil to craft this tier of weapons, you can unlock it by killing Octavian the Militia Captain(external link to map)
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Dark Silver Ingot | You can find silver-ore at the Sacred Silver Mine in Silverlight Hills and Scourgestone in chests etc at places like Dunley Monastery and smelt them into Dark Silver Ingot at a Furnace after unlocking the recipe by killing Octavian the Militia Captain(external link to map). You can craft Scourgestone after killing Christina the Sun Priestess(external link to map) and Leandra the Shadow Priestess(external link to map) |
Reinforced Plank | Unlocked after killing Vincent the Frostbringer(external link to map), can then be crafted at a Sawmill |
After collecting all the materials, we can craft it at an Anvil
Sanguine Weapon
Currently our final stage.
First we need to research it at our tier 3 research facility: Athenaeum that we can unlock by killing Raziel the Shepherd(external link to map)
After unlocking Athenaeum we need to research the recipe either by feeding it schematics or by killing strong enemies in Silverlight Hills and having it drop from them.
The materials required for this stage:
Material | How to get |
---|---|
Flawless Sapphire | Can be bought from the Tier 3 Merchant or as a general drop in Silverlight Hills / Cursed Forest |
Primal Blood Essence | Crafted with 12 Greater Blood Essence at a Blood Press after killing Jade the Vampire Hunter(external link to map) |
Pristine Leather | Pristine Hide dropped by Werewolves in Dunley Farmlands or by enemies at Lurker Dwellings in Cursed Forest, process Pristine Hide into Pristine Leather at a Tannery |
After researching it and collecting all the materials, we can craft it at an Anvil
